 Investigation and Analysis

Change 4life was one of the campaigns that was with NHS the change 4life campaign provided support with expectant parents, children and young aged 0-19 (or 25yrs for young people with special educational needs or disabilities) and their families to eat well and stay active. They later joined another campaign that also supported the NHS know as Better Health. The change 4life first launched in 2009 it was shown on tv and radios across the UK motivating and supporting many people to listen and eat well and be active.

Better Health is another campaign that is with the NHS also apart of change 4life as they joined Better Health. Better Health webpage provides tools to help people improve their health and mental wellbeing including weight loss NHS 12-week weight loss plan app. Better Health also advertises many campaigns including weight, smoking and healthy eating they also sponsor the NHS as they work together, and you can see this in the top corner of the advertisement as it has the NHS logo. In 2020 there was many campaigns against covid-19 it was to keep the NHS safe.

As we can see that better health has many campaigns into a range of things like losing weight, getting active, quitting smoking and drinking less. The NHS also provides its customers with ways to kickstart there health so they can deal with the problems they have and easily work their way up to make their life better. This shows that there still is a growing problem in health since there is so many ways to help it. The most growing problem and the worst of them all is smoking this is mainly because that amount of lives it affects the statistics just say it all that tobacco kills 8 million per year while 7 million is the result of direct tobacco. This research has helped me realize how important the NHS and Better Health campaign is to so many people.

There are many campaigns and existing products but the best example of this is change4life which is meant all audiences they used to run many adverts across the UK with very good animation called Claymation where you use clay and use it to create the characters and the set behind them some of the set will be 3D animated but mostly clay then you would lower the camera to be level with the set then you would create the shot frame by frame with each still shot being a second you will have to position each of the character just right each shot then when it's done it will look normal and the clay will move like normal and quickly.

Researching existing NHS media

"Help" by the NHS is a campaign which spreads awareness of mental health issues. The campaign encourages people struggling with their mental health to speak up and talk to a therapist, this is in response to the Quarantine where many people developed depression or other mental health issues due to social isolation.

The "Help" TV advert spreads awareness to the campaign and to mental health as a whole. The ad features John Lennon's song "Help" which not only coveys the theme of mental health awareness but also makes the ad more memorable and recognizable to its audience. The advert features a group of people singing the chorus of the song, in which the lyrics ask for help which directly addresses the audience and telling them where to find help from the NHS.

The advert features close ups from the singers, the camera is handheld and is shaky and the focus is on deep view making the singers faces the only thing in focus and creating a deeper connection between the audience and the people in the advert. The close-up of the singers' cuts between one another as they sing the chorus. The close-up cross dissolves, when they finish the song, into the singer's giving information about the campaign and where to find professional help as the camera cuts between them occasionally showing a low angle and an over the shoulder shot of a man contacting his GP.

The "Better health" campaign strives to encourage families and young children to become more active and improve their diets, in response to the rising obesity rates caused by the Quarantine, as well as quitting smoking and drinking to live longer and healthier lives. The print products for the campaign feature bright colors and bold text which communicates to the audience that the campaign is light-hearted and fun, the main person in the print products is usually older or a minimum of 30-year-old which appeals to the older demographic who are encouraged to be more active and support their families. The slogan for the campaign "Better Health let's do this" encourages the audience to be active and fits the theme of being active and improving our health.

The NHS print adverts for mental health feature a close up of a person's face, her expression seems depressed or sad communicates their struggle with mental health and shows how they struggle to cope, with a quote covering their face, the quote is from the person behind it, and they convey the idea of someone battling with their mental health or struggling to talk to someone about their issues. The print products feature the logo of the NHS as well as the slogans "just talking can help" and "your health matters help us help you" which is a use of personal pronouns, directly addressing the audience, this communicates that the NHS wants people to reach out and seek help for their problems and issues. The quote on the print product is relatable to those struggling with mental health problems and have difficulties communicating their issues. This print advert follows codes and conventions as it is an advert about mental health with a dark and glooming tone and harsh lighting this signifies that this issue is serious and firmly establishes the target demographic as adults with mental health issues. This ad appeals to the personal identity of the audience and how they want to improve themselves, the ad serves to show where help is available. The person in the poster is looking off to the side of the camera, which is a use of indirect address, signifying that she is thinking and struggling with speaking out about her health.

I have also done some audience questionnaires were I ask many questions to do with health and fitness including this question which is asking do you think you have a healthy lifestyle and the answer was more positive than negative 2 people said they do and 1 said no this has shown the majority has giving positive feedback and more people do have a healthy lifestyle. Most of the people taking my survey are between 16 and 17 this is good as this is the target range and that is useful as then you know who your audience is and then start running the adverts for that audience I also could include what interests them of the demographics top better appeal to them. The majority of people taking the survey would like to have a healthy routine as one of the questions was do you have a routine and most people would also change something in there lifestyle and that's why creating adverts is the best way to make people motivated to Atay healthy and do exercise for a long period of time.

ideas for focus group

Q1. How many times do you go to the gym if you do how many times a week?

Q2. Do you have a routine everyday if you do what is it and why do you do it?

Q3. What draws your attention when watching an advert and why?

Q4. Do you smoke if you do what do you smoke and if not why?

Q5. Do you drink alcohol and if you don't why?

Feedback

1. I go to the gym 4 or 5 times a week.

2. I do not have a routine everyday but would like one because it makes you more healthy.

3. The colours draw my attention also the narrative of the advert how it's presented on screen.

4. I do not smoke as it is bad for you to smoke and its very unhealthy as it can damage your lungs and cause cancer.

5. Not very often sometimes but I'm not a heavy drinker as it is not good for your health.

A take away from the answers as that many people get insulted so this prevents people from exercising in public places for example someone calling you fat it makes people not want to go to the gym and leading to a lack of motivation or will continue. Another reason is diets what the people eat and some people feel down about their diets and that what they eat is a big reason why they wouldn't consider themselves to be healthy and peoples health issues can not make someone motivated to exercise as well.

The current state of adverts are not the best they are not appealing due to editing and how they depict the exercise being exclusively targeted towards certain things like extreme sports like football and hiking other ways should be included to help the other people understand the best way to get exercise they should focus on high-octane activities being reduced more since the advert should be showing how to exercise in the best possible way this could be done by showing that exercise is fun and easy or showing ways to exercise that are easy.

In creating my advert it needs to be visually intriguing to catch the attention of the viewers and it needs to stand out amongst the others products also try to be appealing to the target audience  and its best if its relatable to the people watching the advert as well as including visuals and maybe music and have maybe a good narrative having music the audience knows will be great as its popular and would get attention or a popular social media in order to market the advert to the target demographic.
